Prince William reveals ‘we were all there’ when family dog Lupo died

Prince William’s beloved dog was just nine when he died

rince William really lifted the lid on a number of topics during his recent interview with Eugene Levy, including the death of his beloved dog Lupo.

The future king gave the Hollywood star a tour of the private gardens at Windsor Castle during a special episode of the Apple TV+ series, The Reluctant Traveler, where he opened up about the loss of his pet.

Prince William opens up about the loss of his dog Lupo

The duo were joined by the prince’s pet Cocker Spaniel, Orla, and the ice was well and truly broken between Wills, Eugene and Orla when Eugene gave the pooch a delicious treat.

“This is going down well, look, you’re getting the look which is like ‘please feed me,’” William joked.

Eugene replied: “And that’ll do it. Oh my goodness…,” whilst petting the dog.

William detailed how Orla is related to his late dog, Lupo.

Lupo died in November 2020, and Orla is his niece.

He said: “So [Orla’s] actually the niece of our other dog, Lupo, who sadly we lost in lockdown.”

The Schitt’s Creek actor responded: “Were you there? When it happened?”

To this, William replied: “Yeah we were all there sadly, it was very sad.”

At the time, William and Kate shared a tribute following the death of Lupo.

Alongside a snap of Lupo laying in the snow, they penned: “Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much.”

In response to the emotional post, a slew of royal fans shared their support in the comment section.

One penned: “My thoughts and prayers go to all of you! Lupo was very loved and will be missed.”

“So sorry for your loss of your precious pup,” said another.

“Sorry for your loss, pets are family also,” added a third.

A fourth chimed in: “I’m so sorry to hear this, it is heartbreaking to lose our animals they are part of our families and bring us so much love and pleasure. May he run free. Love and thoughts with you all.”

Lupo was a very special addition to William and Kate’s family unit, given by Kate’s younger brother, James Middleton, following their wedding in 2011.

The Waleses welcome Orla to the family

Meanwhile, Orla joined the family a year after Lupo’s passing in 2021.

Her name was revealed when she was featured in Princess Charlotte’s seventh birthday portrait in May of 2022.

Earlier this year, Orla reportedly welcomed her own littles ones.

She gave birth to a litter of puppies and Kensington Palace shared a snap of the Prince of Wales with three of the pups on his 43rd birthday in June.

Of course, many social media users were in awe of the adorable pups.

One praised: “Beautiful picture. Happy birthday to the Prince of Wales.”

“The most sweetest photo,” said another.

“This is now my favourite photo of Prince William,” gushed a third.
