Cameron Mathison Bids Farewell to Family Home in Emotional Update

Hallmark alum and Hannah Swensen Mysteries star Cameron Mathison has shared a deeply emotional update with fans as he and his family continue to heal from the devastating loss of their California home. The property was destroyed in a wildfire earlier this year, and in a recent Instagram video, Mathison opened up about their final goodbye to the place where so many of their memories were made.

A Heartfelt Return to What Once Was

In an August 22nd Instagram post, Mathison stood on the land where his home once stood. The debris has been cleared, leaving behind an empty but peaceful space ready for a new beginning. In his caption, he wrote:

“On the ground where our house once held us, saying goodbye to what once was and opening our hearts to what’s ahead. We let go of the past and released it all, making space for what’s to come.”

As he filmed the quiet landscape, Mathison explained that each visit looks different—“There’s more death and it seems like a different place altogether.” His voice grew emotional as he spoke about the difficulty of returning, admitting, “A little hard to look at, but there’s lots to be grateful for.”

A Family Ceremony of Healing

Mathison shared that he, his wife Vanessa, and their two children planned a private goodbye ceremony on the property. The family sat together to reflect, sharing memories and observing moments of silence. Mathison brought a small plant symbolizing new beginnings—something to mark the transition toward rebuilding.

Photos shared through his Instagram Stories showed blankets laid out on the ground surrounded by family pictures, keepsakes, and mementos from the home’s earlier years. He captioned one image:

“Say goodbye with memories, silence, tears, and music.”

Vanessa later commented on the post, calling the experience “a beautiful grieving ceremony” and “an important piece of our healing.”

Love and Support From Colleagues and Fans

The post drew heartfelt reactions from Hallmark and Great American Family colleagues. Holly Robinson Peete sent a series of prayer emojis, while Candace Cameron Bure wrote, “We love you.”

Fans also poured out their support. One wrote:

“This is extremely difficult to watch and listen to. You built so much love surrounding this property and house. My deepest respect to you, Vanessa, your daughter, and your son.”

Another added:

“You are an absolute inspiration. Thank you for sharing this with us.”

Looking Ahead to a New Chapter

Although saying goodbye was painful, Mathison emphasized gratitude and hope. With the land cleared and their ceremony complete, the family is ready to embrace rebuilding and the new chapter waiting ahead.
