Sky News was halted with major breaking news in a huge announcement for King Charles and Prince William. Interrupting the regular programming, presenter Matt Barbet said: “Breaking news to bring you now, King Charles has now formally removed Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s Prince title and also his HRH style, his royal highness.” This comes after Andrew’s controversial relationship with paedophile financier, Jeffrey Epstein. Matt revealed that the Monarch issued a Letters Patent and explained: “We knew that this was coming, we knew that he was going to cease to be called Prince Andrew and would go by the name Andrew Mountbatten-Windor, that has now formally happened.”
The Sky News presenter continued: “The King issuing a Letters Patent to remove the title of Prince and the style of His Royal Highness.” The disgraced royal initially stepped down from all Royal duties in 2019 following his disastrous Newsnight interview about his links to Epstein. However, more pressure has been mounting after one of his victims, Virginia Guifre, made sexual abuse allegations against Andrew.
Although Andrew had maintained his innocence and denied any wrongdoing, Virginia sued him in 2021, and the case was settled out of court for a sum believed to be around £12 million.
Virginia, whose posthumous memoir, Nobody’s Girl, was published last month, also contained alleged sexual encounters with Andrew.
As a result, the former royal released a statement announcing he would no longer use his titles and said: “In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.
“I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.

“With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.
“As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”
Another entry published by the Crown Office in The Gazette confirmed the removal of Andrew from the Roll of Peerage as the Duke of York, which was previously announced.
It read: “THE KING has been pleased by Warrant under His Royal Sign Manual dated 30 October 2025 to direct His Secretary of State to cause the Duke of York to be removed from the Roll of the Peerage with immediate effect.”
Additionally, Andrew was served a notice to surrender his lease at the 30-room Windsor mansion, the Royal Lodge, where he has resided for over 20 years.
It was reported that he will now move to private accommodation in Sandringham, Norfolk.
