Parker Schnabel’s Record-Breaking Gamble: Can He Hit the 10,000-Ounce Gold Target This Season?
Parker Schnabel is back at it in the rugged Klondike goldfields, aiming to set a new record. His ambitious 7,500-acre claim at Dominion Creek, 50 miles southeast of Dawson City, promises a gold rush of its own, but it’s a high-stakes gamble. After uncovering a whopping 4,500-ounce gold bonanza in the Money Pit last season, Parker has set his sights on an even bigger prize: 10,000 ounces of gold worth $25 million.
Parker’s crew faces one of their most demanding seasons yet. To reach this unprecedented target, Parker needs to mine at least 430 ounces every week for six months—something no one on his team has attempted before. “We’ve got a lot of gold to find,” he says, acknowledging the intense workload and high expectations. “It’s not going to come easy.”
After moving equipment and setting up Big Red, his main wash plant, Parker kicked off the season with high hopes. He’s banking on both his experience and rising gold prices to maximize his returns. However, the first major cleanup wasn’t what they expected. A mere 5.6 ounces of gold, valued at just $114,000, was extracted from 34 hours of work, marking the worst cleanup his crew has ever seen. “We nailed it,” Parker joked, disappointed with the low yield.
Despite the rocky start, Parker remains undeterred. His team is hopeful that the next dig will bring better results as they push forward, determined to conquer the Money Pit’s unforgiving terrain. This season, every ounce counts as Parker and his crew chase the gold rush dream and aim to secure their place in Klondike history. Will his bet on Dominion Creek pay off, or will this gamble cost him the season?
