Cameron Reunited With Former All My Children Co-Star Rebecca Budig

The star of ‘General Hospital’ met up with Rebecca Budig for an honest interview-for many years, he portrayed Ryan Lavery, who was distantly related to GH’s Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan).

Rebecca, known for her role as Hayden Barnes on GH, was Ryan’s girlfriend Greenlee Smythe during their time in Pine Valley. Mathison appeared as a guest on Rebecca Budig’s podcast, Soapy.

The fan favorite from The Bold and the Beautiful co-hosts the podcast with her close friend Greg Rikkart, who migrates between Days of Our Lives and The Young and The Restless.

When Mathison and Budig came together on her podcast, it felt as if no time had gone by- they had spent many years collaborating on All My Children.

Cameron Became Emotional When Talking About The Past Few Years

However, time has gone by, and Mathison has faced many challenges in life over the last few years. The actor became emotional several times, causing Budig to tear up as he opened up about his struggles.

Mathison revealed that during these past years, the soap star has fought kidney cancer, lost his mother to brain cancer, and a close friend faced a serious battle with drugs.

He also lost a job he cherished, and that was just the start of the pain he experienced. “My wife, Vanessa, and I have essentially started a very difficult separation that is leading to a divorce, which we are currently going through.”

Cameron Continued Talking About His Streak Of Bad Luck, And Teared Up As Well

Cameron continued talking about his streak of bad luck, saying “then my dog passed away. After that, my children went off to college, my house caught fire, and I lost everything I ever owned, along with all the memories of my life and my kids’ lives,” Mathison shared.

Tears streamed down his face as he talked about his losses, but he also acknowledged that he feels thankful for these hardships because they have contributed to his growth and resilience.

“I feel like I’m not scared of anything,” the actor remarked. This includes all the criticism he has faced for portraying the detestable Drew Cain on General Hospital.

From Trauma To Drama On The ABC Soap

Despite the difficulties he has encountered, playing a villain on the ABC soap has actually benefited Mathison-while GH fans might not appreciate this version of Drew, Mathison is enjoying himself. “It’s been quite enjoyable-at first, it was a challenge.

I didn’t completely grasp it; I think the audience didn’t either. The transformation of Drew happened so suddenly, with certain events taking place.

But it also coincided with a time in my life filled with significant challenges, and there was some anger involved. Anger, along with many other emotions and issues we face when dealing with tough situations,” Mathison shared.

Drew Will Do Some Awful Things Following Monica Quartermaine’s Death

Although he refrained from sharing any spoilers in his interview with Soapy, Mathison cautioned fans of GH that Drew’s actions following the death of Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) will be exceptionally terrible.

Listening to Mathison on the podcast was a gripping experience as he expressed his emotions about his friendship with Budig.

Rikaart also shone, commending Mathison for his resilience in facing the various challenges life has recently presented. But be warned-if you think Drew is awful already, just wait until his reactions to Monica’s death and being cut out of her will play out!
