General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal that Kirsten Storms, who plays fan-favorite Maxie Jones, has finally broken her recent social media silence with a heartfelt holiday update that offers both reassurance and cautious hope about her future on the ABC soap.
Fans will remember that Storms previously took a leave of absence from General Hospital to relocate to Tennessee and undergo another brain-related medical procedure. Since then, viewers have been anxiously awaiting news about her health—and whether Maxie Jones might soon return to Port Charles.
Kirsten Storms Opens Up on Instagram
Kirsten shared her update through an Instagram post, beginning with a warm holiday message to her followers.
“Season’s greetings, my Instagram friends,” she wrote. “I hope everyone is making the most of the winter break with their families and loved ones.”
She joked about adjusting to colder weather, admitting she’s been complaining about it—but also secretly loving it. Having grown up in Florida and later living in California, even seeing tiny snow flurries was enough to make her smile.
“I totally freaked out when I saw some very small snow flurries that melted the instant they touched,” she shared, laughing at herself.
A Medical Update: Living in the “Gray Zone”
Storms then shifted to the more serious reason for her post—her health. After receiving an outpouring of concern and support from fans, she decided it was time to provide clarity.
Her most recent medical appointment was with a new neurosurgeon in St. Louis, who delivered cautiously optimistic news. According to Storms, she is currently in a “gray zone” regarding treatment for her aneurysm.
“It seems it’s a ‘keep an eye on it’ situation,” she explained.
The aneurysm is not considered extremely small, but it is also not severe enough to require immediate surgery. The doctor gave her two options: continue monitoring it closely or move forward with a coiling procedure. Importantly, she was reassured that she is not in immediate danger.
“That was obviously fantastic news,” Storms said, adding that she’s still weighing whether she’s emotionally comfortable with a wait-and-see approach.
Surgery Hesitation Rooted in Experience
Kirsten was candid about why this decision isn’t easy. She referenced her 2021 craniotomy and encouraged fans to look back at that post, noting that the visible scar on the back of her head explains why this topic is so difficult for her to revisit. She also reminded followers of another surgery she underwent earlier this year, making the thought of more procedures understandably overwhelming.
Could Maxie Jones Return?
While nothing is confirmed, Storms did hint that a return to General Hospital is possible.
“As I sit in this gray zone thinking about my plan, I want to thank you all for sharing your messages and stories,” she wrote. “I really needed those and had no clue how much they would help.”
She acknowledged how easy it is to joke around online while avoiding deeper conversations—something she joked her psychologist would definitely call out. Ending her message on a hopeful note, she wished fans happy holidays and teased, “Maybe I’ll be back in Port Charles soon.”
What’s Next?
For now, Kirsten Storms is focused on her health, reflection, and gratitude. Fans will have to wait a bit longer for confirmation about Maxie Jones’ return, but the door is clearly still open.
