DAVID Beckham hailed being knighted by King Charles as “my proudest moment” – after the honour escaped him for more than a decade.

Sir David, 50, revealed details of his intimate chat with the King as he was awarded his long awaited knighthood at Windsor Castle today.

His wife – the newly appointed Lady Victoria – and parents Ted and Sandra Beckham watched on proudly as he received the coveted honour.

The ex-England and Manchester United star was knighted for services to sport and charity.

Earlier this year, Sir David said he was “immensely proud” of being recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours.

It marks the end of an agonising wait for the charity ambassador, who was first put forward for a knighthood in 2011.

The father of four – who played 115 times for England – has struck up a firm friendship with the King over recent years.

And speaking after the ceremony, Becks explained his suit was inspired by Charles.

The Manchester United legend said: “He was quite impressed with my suit.

“He’s kind of the most elegantly dressed man that I know, so he inspired quite a few of my looks over the years.
