Why King Charles III did not reveal the type of cancer he was being treated for.

Despite indicating a reduction in his cancer treatment in the new year, King Charles III has chosen not to disclose the specific type of cancer he has, acting on medical advice.

In a recorded message aired on December 12th as part of Channel 4’s “Stand Up To Cancer” program, the British King again spoke openly about his cancer journey. The 77-year-old stated that the cancer diagnosis was initially “shocking,” while underscoring the critical role of early detection. He also shared positive news, indicating that his cancer treatment schedule would be lessened in the new year, due to his positive response to treatments and adherence to his doctor’s instructions.

King Charles III considered this a personal milestone and evidence of the significant progress in cancer treatment in recent years, hoping to inspire those currently facing, or who will face, the disease.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed the King is recovering well, but avoided using the word “remission.” Since his cancer diagnosis in February 2024, he is believed to have been receiving weekly treatments.

Although more open about his health, King Charles III has never specified the type of cancer he has. According to Buckingham Palace, this decision was made deliberately by the King and his advisors. A royal spokesperson explained that cancer experts advised King Charles III to focus on the broader community of patients, rather than his own condition, to deliver a more inclusive message.

The Palace also confirmed that the King’s cancer diagnosis was unrelated to his prior treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia, and clarified that he does not have prostate cancer.

In his message, King Charles III used colorectal cancer as an example to highlight the significance of early detection, noting that survival rates decline sharply if the disease is detected late. He also mentioned the new Screening Checker tool, which allows people to check their eligibility for breast, colorectal, and cervical cancer screenings.

Officials stated that mentioning specific types of cancer was not intended to be personal or directly connected to the royal family. Previously, King Charles III’s daughter-in-law, Princess Kate Middleton of Wales, announced her cancer remission in early 2025 after treatment.

Prince William shared more about the family’s difficult time, admitting that his father’s and wife’s cancer diagnoses in quick succession were a major
