Breaking News: Duchess Sophie receives Heartbreaking News on court case – ‘ruined our family’

The Duchess of Edinburgh, who is nearing the last leg of her Latin American visit, was hit with an upsetting update about the legal case taking place in UK.

Sophie’s name was unfortunately associated with an ongoing court case as her police escort was accused of driving carelessly leading to the death of an 81-year-old woman in 2023.

The jury had acquitted PC Christopher Harrison after deliberation of two hours and 25 minutes on Thursday. However, the ‘not guilty’ verdict did not sit right with the victim’s family as they issued a heartbreaking reaction.

Helen Holland has been crossing the street at Old Bailey when she was hit by the speeding officer part of the motorcycle convoy that was escorting Duchess Sophie as she left the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office in 2023.

The family of Helen have revealed that they plan to sue the force not to get money from the case but to exonerate their grandmother as she “did nothing wrong”.

“We are suing them just to make sure it’s recognised,” Helen’s 59-year-old son Martin told The Sunday Times. “We’re not in the slightest bit interested in compensation — it’s about proving that mum did nothing wrong.”

He continued, “She would never take a risk. Certainly, crossing a road was one of the big risks that was important to her. She knew how to cross a road.”

The 81-year-old had received multiple severe injuries but her fractured skull eventually became the cause of her death two weeks later. One of Helen’s 10 grandchildren called out the officer after the verdict was announced. “You ruined our family with no consequences,” they had yelled.

It is important to note that while police officers are legally allowed to exceed the speed limit, they should not pose a threat to civilians around them. The officer had 21 years of training and experts believe it was adequate enough to have avoided the accident from occurring.

The Duchess of Edinburgh has not yet made a statement but did express her sympathies with the family when the incident occurred.
